Содержание разговора между определенными категориями лиц (муж и жена, адвокат и его клиент, священник и исповедуемый, врач и пациент, журналист и источник его информации) защищено правом на конфиденциальность. Юридически никто не имеет права требовать разглашения содержания такого разговора. Конфиденциальность сообщения служит главным основанием для исключения тех или иных показаний из судебных протоколов, то есть для исключения их из числа доказательств [exclusion of evidence].
